Picture(s) of the day: Rickshaw smoke

Jeez….I saw this picture from my own city, Karachi (Pakistan) and was flabbergasted. [a] what were they thinking? [b] what effect must have been on their (and other residents’) health after this exposure? [c] these rickshaws are damn polluting.

When I first saw this picture, my thought was the same… if anyone was NOT convinced that rickshaws are polluting, this picture would convince them. No?

I have heard recently that CNG rickshaws are being imported into Pakistan and will be available starting next year. If anyone finds more info on it, please do send it to me. Rickshaws can be extremely polluting, especially because their own exhaust is sitting right behind the passengers and in the open cabin during traffic jams, the exhaust is constantly reaching the lungs of the passengers.
