TIME magazine has a wonderful new photo essay on muslim women on their website. I highly encourage people to visit it, and see the complex (and paradoxically juxtaposed) worlds in which today’s muslim women live in. It sheds light on a lot of issues that muslim women deal with, but more importantly, demonstrates that despite the veil or the ‘burka’ prevalent in many muslim cultures, they cannot be identified as a monolithic body. There is tremendous diversity in their thoughts, opinions, views, attitudes, and motivations. In words I would use with my friends: despite all of society’s prejudices against them, muslim women still kick ass!
